What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
I'm not just saying this as I'm a photographer, but if I could offer one bit of advice for engaged couple's it would be don't scrimp on your photographer or get a family friend with a camera to photograph your day as I've seen so many times that it only ends in disappointment. Hiring a professional means that you can trust them to produce beautiful photographic memories of your day, and they will have experience in capturing many weddings so will know what to do in situations where an amateur wouldn't as well as tackling family portraits, gathering guests and knowing how to interact with people. Professional photos will last the test of time and will be one of the only physical remains after the wedding day as the cake will have been eaten, flowers will have died etc.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
After initial enquiry, I will reply letting the couple know if I am available on their wedding date and then invite them round for a chat to discuss their wedding plan in more detail as well as getting to know them as a couple, show them my albums and be available to answer any further questions they may have. By then we will know if we are a good fit for each other and usually couples will follow up with me within a week of meeting me if they haven't already booked at the end of the meeting.
What is the No.1 photo that you think every couple should take?
I think the bride and groom should totally take their own wedding day selfie, so they have a cute pic taken by themselves that they can share on social media if they wish or just keep as their own little snap memorabilia from the day.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Check with your venue if they have a rain contingency plan, always be prepared for the possibility of rain as we do live in England, bring wellies so you don't get your pretty bridal shoes ruined, bring umbrellas and embrace it! You only get married once and your wedding photos will be lovely, regardless if it rains. Some of the most magical photos I've taken have been in the rain at night time and end up being the ones that the couple love the most!
Describe how you got into photography.
I have always been very creative and got my first digital camera for Christmas when I was 14. I developed a love for taking photos from then onwards and knew that it was the career I wanted to have once it became an option to study for A Level. I then studied for an additional year for a foundation diploma, specialising in photography, in which I achieved a grade of Distinction. Straight after this, I began assisting local wedding photographers when I was 19 until I felt confident to photograph a wedding on my own when I was 20. I worked as a Freelance photographer for a studio, shooting portraits and fashion photos from 2008-2011, still shooting weddings on the side.
