Set within nine acres of parkland overlooking the River Wear, Lumley Castle Hotel is a fairytale place to get married. We invite you to hold your wedding ceremony, reception and evening celebrations in our unique surroundings.
Whether you are planning an intimate wedding reception or larger celebration, we are sure that our magnificent state rooms and sumptuously decorated intimate dining rooms will not fail to impress. - PPeter Murphy23/07/2019Elizabethan Banquet WeddingElizabethan Banquet WeddingWe got married on the 7th July 2018 at Lumley Castle, The weather was sunny and the venue is beautiful. Due to the number of guests attending, we had our Marriage ceremony in the Barons Hall. As it was 2nd time around for both my wife and I, we decided to break convention and went with the Elizabethan banquet instead of the traditional wedding breakfast. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment that went with it. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. There are also some lovely areas in the grounds for some great photographs to look back upon the memories of the day. The room was magnificent ( we stayed in the king james suite ) , clean and tidy and totally luxurious , perfect for our wedding anniversary . The bath was gorgeous ( it had a jet spa fitted ) . There was a bottle of prosecco and a bunch of roses, with toiletries , still and sparkling water along with coffee and tea making facilities, fresh towels , robes and slippers ( everything was thought out ) maybe a few more milk sachets and maybe a couple of cappucino sachets would have went nice , but it was pretty much perfect . We had dinner in the restaurant which was perfect , it was the best steak i have ever tasted and the dessert was gorgeous too ( i had chocolate brownie with ice cream and sauce ), breakfast was top notch too ! . All the staff were just so welcoming and friendly ,the grounds of the castle are beautiful , its so serene to sit outside and enjoy a drink together . Would definately come back to lumley castle ! This castle exceeded our expectations and really did deliver our dream wedding which we will remember for the rest of our lives. The team at Lumley Castle are nothing short of miracle workers and their dedication really shone through right from the very first time we made contact. For anyone considering a castle wedding at Lumley! I whole heartedly recommend you do it! - NNatalie and David30/11/2017Without a doubt the right venueWithout a doubt the right venueLumley Castle was without doubt the right venue for our wedding and we are really pleased we chose it. Everything ran smoothly on the day, it’s a venue with a lot of experience of weddings and they know what they are doing. David was our Co-ordinator on the day and he was great, helpful, nothing was too much trouble and it felt like he really cared about everything running smoothly. We booked the Scarbrough room for our ceremony and the Baron Suite for the reception. It was lovely to have the two options for the two elements of our day. The Baron Suite is really quirky - if you book it and go for table flowers I recommend utilising the candelabras, we did and they looked fab with trailing flowers arranged by our florist. Emma and Holly were excellent in terms of the planning, very helpful, knew their stuff and were very responsive. One of the things I found stressful with wedding planning was when suppliers didn’t get back very promptly but that was never an issue with Lumley. Always consistent in terms of communication. Price wise, we went with the sapphire package and it felt reasonable for what we got, our guests loved the food. There wasn’t much negotiation on price for things, some prices/pricing strategies were set in stone. So if you are looking for a lot of negotiation price wise then this may not be the venue for you. However I don’t know that other venues are big on negotiation either. If you want to get married somewhere that’s extremely picturesque for photos, quirky for guests and with staff who genuinely are lovely then I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lumley Castle. We had a brilliant day and our chosen venue was definitely part of this.Lumley Castle was without doubt the right venue for our wedding and we are really pleased we chose it. The food was above excellent. All the staff were friendly and service was personal. Keith our wedding manager from 8 year ago made it more special by coming to see us on having dinner then treating us to a complimentary drink. The restaurant staff were very good. The day was absolutely magical, we felt that all the arrangements were in safe and capable hands and the wedding team could not do enough to make it a relaxing and perfect day, I would like to mention Keith the wedding coordinator in particular for his calmness and reassurance..what a lovely man. The quality of the food was excellent as many of our guests commented on the day both daytime and evening. The room that we had for our wedding night was in one of the turrets and was straight out of a fairy tale. The setting is original and beautiful would have no hesitation in recommending Lumley Castle to anyone as a wedding venue.We had our wedding at Lumley Castle on the 31st August this year. The venue speaks for itself, we love being able to tell our little boy “mammy & daddy we’re married in a castle!”. The food was another huge highlight, the wedding breakfast was delicious as was the evening buffet. Our guests' highlights were how the day flowed so well and also... the sausage rolls?! Apparently they were to die for!? They still get talked about to this day! We would definitely say, if you’re looking for a stand out venue where nothing is too much trouble, take a look at LumleyOur wedding here was beyond perfect.
