Description

Originally built in 1838 as a meeting house for the workers at the local Tyntesfield Estate, The Gothic revival Clubroom now caters for wedding ceremonies and breakfasts and comfortably seats up to 90 guests. Its high vaulted ceilings feauturing a stunning crystal chandelier, vintage light fittings, eclectic art work and original wooden panelling make for a grand backdrop to your special day. The Lounge Bar with views over the Somerset countryside is the perfect reception area for drinks and nibbles following your ceremony. Sink into a deep leather club chair with a glass of bubbles and soak up view. Head down to The Shindig for an evening knees up or our larger venue with a dancefloor that can host a band or DJ private bar. There’s plenty of lounge seating, a private bar and enough room for up to 200 guests. We serve good local fresh food and all dishes are prepared on the premises with passion. Our canapé and buffet menus perfectly accompany your drinks receptions, and our three course wedding breakfast menu is specially designed and wherever possible sourced locally. Our chefs are open to new ideas and are happy to try and accommodate if our suppliers can source your request! Our imaginatively stocked bar features our very own ‘Flatcappers Ale’ as well as other local brews. Relax following your day of celebrations in one of our luxury guest rooms. Sink into a king size bed and lounge in a roll top bath. All six rooms are furnished with en suite bathrooms, complimentary toiletries, flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations. A full English breakfast is of course included. All six rooms can be reserved for you and your wedding party.

After having dinner here a few times, me and my partner really loved this place and decided it would be perfect for our wedding, and we were correct. Lotty, the wedding co-ordinator was fantastic from start to finish, always keeping us up to date with any changes or things to note, and always on hand to reply to any questions we had. The day itself was perfect, the rooms were lovely and the staff always helpful and really friendly with all the guests and their kids and the day went amazingly well. Would recommend to everyone, The Battleaxes is a firm favourite with us now. My husband and I had our wedding reception at The Battleaxes 2 weeks ago. We got married at Wraxall Church and then came over for the wedding breakfast and party. I don’t know where to start... it was A DREAM! From my amazing beautiful wedding co-ordinator Lotty who worked so hard, to the talented chef Dan, and everybody else who helped achieve our dream day. We really truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Staff were amazing and so friendly and hardworking. The food was outstanding and the venue was just perfect. Really intimate with the right amount of space, with lots of character. One of the many reasons why we chose it for its vintage charm and rustic ambience. We have had guests say the best wedding they have ever been too! For a wedding not overpriced either like some of the massive country houses yet you get outstanding food, quality and service all in one. We will definitely be back for more meals and hire out the venue for future events. Please don’t ever change!! Also the rooms are beautiful, lots of traditional decor, clean and lovely views of the hills and to include breakfast for £100. Great price. Just back from a weekend of magic, celebrating our daughter and new son-in-laws wedding with you. Cannot praise everyone involved highly enough, each and every member of staff were fantastic. We felt so relaxed and have made so many happy memories, thank you so much. Wow!! Our wedding day was perfect. The venue was all we needed for our whole day. We could not fault a single thing. The day went perfectly. Thanks to the wedding coordinator Lotty who was so attentive. Giving advice and help all whilst considering and understanding our vision. She made our day so beautiful. The food was outstanding and extremely well presented. The staff were courteous and extremely helpful. They went above and beyond to accommodate not only us but all our guests with efficiency and professionalism. Would we recommend this venue to everyone? Yes, absolutely! Mrs and Mrs ScottWow!! We were not disappointed. We were not disappointed.
Me and my wife chose The Battle Axes for our daughter's wedding reception. We were not disappointed. From start to finish it was of a high standard. Lotty the wedding coordinator was excellent, Lotty was always helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly. The staff were excellent, friendly and always willing to help. The food was of a high standard the menu was superb. I would definitely recommend this venue if you're planning a wedding. It's well worth a visit. “Haven’t got a bad word to say. We got married in the ceremony room and then partied the night away in the bar. We had a band and all the bits we wanted, they are totally flexible on things you want. My partner and I are pretty laid back (except for the week before wedding nerves) so we were looking for a wedding that reflected this. Lotty (the weddings coordinator) was chilled too. She made us feel at ease the whole way through our booking. She is also super creative and loves the decorating side of things, which was super appealing as I wanted it to look amazing but didn’t want to be faffing myself. Lotty was all over this, she really made it look perfect. The food was superb, with everyone of our guests commenting on how fab it was. Lastly but not least,we were so impressed with all the staff. So attentive and helpful but also not in your face. They did a grand job. We stayed three nights in the gorgeous guests rooms so we were sad to leave. Thank you all so much. Having recently been redecorated, they really have paid attention to detail and taken care of every aspect of the venue. What really makes this the best venue is the quality of service that they offer. Lotty, our wedding coordinator was so accommodating and really took personalised service to the next level. She made us feel very comfortable with the entire process (which can be very stressful) and ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. To put this into perspective for you readers, Lotty even intervened to ensure a door wouldn't move with the wind blowing outside so there wouldn't be any interruptions to our wedding service! We really could not have asked for any more from Lotty, she truly did go above and beyond for us, for which we will be eternally grateful to her for how much she did for us. wedding at the Battleaxes! I cannot give enough praise to The Battleaxes! Me and my husband got married there last month and it was honestly perfect. Lotty, the wedding coordinator, is knowledgeable and professional. She was in close contact with us in the run up and there was no question too small that she answered punctually and clearly. Lotty is also extremely personable. She clearly makes a point of getting to know the couples who have decided to get married at The Battleaxes - we were delighted when she spent almost the whole day with us when we visited to taste the wedding menu and were totally reassured that there would be nothing for us to worry about on the day. As expected, the day itself went seamlessly and was amazing. The club room when prepared for the ceremony and wedding breakfast looked beautiful. The food exceeded all our expectations and a lot of the guests have commented on how great this was (one said she had the best brownie of her life :)). The best thing, however, was how fantastic all the staff working there were - smiley and helpful, and very patient with the guests who were quite lively! Our friends and family have commented on how relaxed the day felt and I think this is a result of the venue and all the staff. Also, we have visited and stayed at The Battleaxes on occasions other than our wedding and have found consistently the food to be great, the venue clean and the staff very lovely.
