Notley Abbey is one of the most exquisite venues in Buckinghamshire, offering complete exclusivity to each and every couple and some of the most beautiful country house grounds you could imagine. Each wedding is completely bespoke, with every detail taken care of by an experience Wedding Planning Team and the help of a unique online planner. If couples require their ceremony to be on site at Notley Abbey, they can choose from the intimate Abbott’s Hall or the grand stone barn Refectory. Or, if choosing a summer date, the immaculate walled garden creates the perfect backdrop for a country garden celebration. As your guests then mingle on the lavender-lined patio or by the fireplaces in what was once Laurence Olivier’s home, photographers can whisk newlyweds through the driveway’s magnificent lime trees for some candid couple portraits or even a dramatic sunset shot. Meanwhile, Notley Abbey’s brigade of in-house chefs will be meticulously preparing a three-course wedding banquet, chosen specifically by each couple. Guests dine in style in the Grade I listed Monks’ Refectory, experiencing the seamless service you would expect from such a luxury venue. Every aspect of the day runs like clockwork with expert coordination from in-house specialist banqueting teams, so couples can relax and let their hair down for their evening party. Music and dancing make the Refectory come alive well into the night, until guests retire to one of Notley Abbey’s 9 stunning bedroom suites. Kieran and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we couldn’t have asked or wanted anything more. The staff on the day were so attentive, professional and friendly and were always walking around with a smile on their faces. Our guests commented on how wonderful the staff were and you guys really did smash it. Saturday surpassed all our expectations and was literally the best day ever. The venue is beautiful and all aspects of the planning of the wedding and the day itself were managed extremely well - except for one aspect. Prior to the day we had chosen our day time meal as a result of the tasting day that was held, which was extremely good, as was the meal itself. However, no tasting or even photographs were available to help us chose our evening buffet, despite us asking to see at least some pictures. On the day we were disappointed by the poor quality of the evening buffet and we received some rather upsetting negative feedback from guests. Essentially we had ordered Focaccia with different toppings together with roasted vegetables. Our hearts sank when we saw the very thick blocks of bread topped with a very thin layer of topping. The vegetables appeared to primarily consist of rather mushy red peppers in small bowls. As we were having a lovely day and did not want to detract from our enjoyment, we did not complain at the time, or even admit to each other that we had been disappointed. After we returned from honeymoon we made a complaint to Bijou, asking for some financial compensation - given that the day cost us nearly £20K! Bijou then seemed determined to tell us why there wasn’t a problem without actually inquiring into our concerns to find out exactly why we were dissatisfied. They made constant reference to their internal quality control processes and the fact that the food was actually eaten and they then got stuck on the fat that we had not said anything on the day. As we pointed out, our guests were extremely hungry by that point and we did not want to start complaining on the day of our wedding. Bijou seemed determined to deny that they had an unhappy customer and effectively accused us of lying because we had not complained on the day. In the process Bijou revealed themselves to be a somewhat arrogant and profit rather than customer centric organisation, which was a shame given most aspects of their service were very good. What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
Flowers enhance a wedding, we know that, but when we see them hanging from beams over the top table in the Monks' Refectory, they do look rather special.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
There are too many to share; from our magnificent tree-lined approach to the walled garden, the path leading up to the house and not forgetting our historic Monks' Refectory. Notley Abbey is full of wedding photography hot-spots. Bring your camera when you come to visit us.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
We're lucky enough to welcome celebrity guests to Notley Abbey on a frequent basis. As the venue was once owned by Sir Laurence Oliver and Vivien Leigh, you can imagine the celebrity guest lists who used to party in the house back in the day.
What’s your favourite canapé?
Do we have to choose just one? We like to indulge, so our peeled Tiger Prawns with wasabi mayo, lime and chilli are pretty morish.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
We wouldn't say no to a strawberry dipped in indulgent chocolate from our chocolate fountain!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
Driving through the gates of any wedding venue is exciting, but at Notley Abbey, your dreams may instantly turn in to a reality because the tree-lined approach is truly spectacular and we expect you to arrive to your visit late, as our couples always want to stop and take a photo of the driveway before they reach the house.
