FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

Aww come on, they're all great!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

'Wow we have too much time to plan our wedding' said no one ever. If you can get something done well in advance do it! Those last couple of months will be loaded with stuff that cant be done any earlier so do the stuff you can now.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

We've had some great ones in the past - We had a deal with one couple where all the groomsmen brought in a Homebrew each that we put behind the bar and served. Maybe not a very 'touching' personal touch but it got the reception jumping that's for sure. Most of the lovely touches come in the form of the favours given at the meal and table decorations. We have had anything from personalised ales and handmade chutneys to place names made from scrabble letters. All sorts of things really!

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Considerate, friendly, awesome, special, significant.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

The whole thing looks amazing. Probably group shots with the gatehouse in the background.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

We have had a county Cricketer, TV Stars, GB Athletes here and some important city folk but if I told you who exactly I'd have to kill you.

What’s your favourite canapé?

Our mini Roast beef and Yorkshire puddings probably narrowly pip our bang bang chicken into second place. The Roast Pork Belly is also amazing.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Bacon sandwiches. With or without chips.

What is your venue's most unique feature?

Its an 11th Century Abbey but as its used as a school its rugged enough to cope with a lively wedding. We don't wrap the place in bubble wrap despite its serious historical significance. You can even use our gong as part of the speeches if you like!

What part of your business are you most proud of?

As we only do about 17 weddings a year they all tend to be bespoke. I guess its the fact that we actually enjoy putting them on so all the staff and the sixth form pupils we use as waiting staff genuinely enjoy working weddings. It makes the whole thing feel more intimate somehow, like we are all part of the special day I guess!
